IT’S 8:01 ON FRIDAY MORNING
Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!
We had the partial eclipse on Wednesday night, and with the peak taking place at around 7:20 pm, the sun was already a little low in the sky, and with many parts of Chislehurst being in a valley, didn’t offer many of us a great opportunity to see it. A lot of the local chat was to up to the Rec or the Cricket Ground. Personally we did not have a great view, so if anyone has any photos etc, we’d love to see them!

THIS WEEK AT A GLANCE
This week’s newsletter includes a Barbican plant-adoption event that will return in September and December, alongside several Chislehurst plans: a comedy night at the Imperial Arms, Scadbury Manor’s open weekend, and a free wellness walk to Scadbury Park. Also, Charing Cross and Waterloo East reopen after engineering works, plus a light-hearted look at the apparent return of wired headphones among commuters.

🏙️ IN TOWN
If you were looking to pick up a free plant, perhaps for your office, you could have gone to a free event at the Barbican where they are giving away plants on Wednesday 19th, but it seems that this has now sold-out. However, they are also going to run this event again on Sept-13 and Dec-03, so I’d recommend signing up now.
🏘️ IN CHISLEHURST
COMEDY NIGHT
Next Thursday, the Imperial Arms will be hosting a comedy night downstairs in the Bistro. Apparently this is Real comedy, with no filter, so prepare yourselves!
Booking highly recommended.
WHEN: Thursday, Aug-20, 7:30 pm.
WHERE: Imperial Arms, Bistro
DETAILS: Book a table
SCADBURY MANOR OPEN WEEKEND
The Manor and grounds are typically closed to the public but every so often the Orpington and District Archaeological Society open up the doors to visitors to have a nosy around. The event is free, but donations are welcome.
WHEN: September 12 & 13
WHERE: Scadbury Park, Chislehurst
DETAILS: https://www.odas.org.uk/open-weekend/
WELLNESS WALK
“If Only They Knew” will be putting on a free Wellness Walk + a free smoothie on Sunday from outside Fico Bianco and walking up to Scadbury Park. Despite London being a huge global city, it can be hard to make connections and friendships with people, so this could be just the even to do that.
WHEN: September 13, 10:00 am
WHERE: Outside Fico Bianco, The High Street
DETAILS: Reserve your spot
🚂 THE COMMUTE
Charing Cross and Waterloo East re-open this weekend.
For any of us getting the train into central London during these 22 days of engineering works, will be very happy to hear they finish this Sunday. Some of my commutes have not been pleasant with additional people and temperatures of 30°+, so I look forward to some normality back next week.
👂 HEARD ON THE PLATFORM
Despite the sales figures for just Apple Airpods being larger then most companies (an estimated $18 billion in annual revenue), it seems that wired headphones are making their way back. Based on a unofficial and casual survey of commuters this week, I would say there do seem to be more people with earphones physically plugged in. Is this a nostalgia thing? Fed up of constantly charging bluetooth headphones? Or something else?
