Brisket, House Prices, and a Bit More Daylight

We’ve nearly done it! We’re in the last few days of January and I think everyone is ready for Feb. For those of you doing Dry January, you’ve only got a couple of days to go, and if you got this far, congrats to you. I’ve personally abstained for the month, but I think a work event tonight will do for me. We’ve started to see snowdrops poke their heads up out of the ground, and we’re also getting a whole additional hour of daylight since the beginning of the month (roughly 9 hours). Sunlight is a different matter.

Working in the City there is no end of choices to get food for lunch all the way from a supermarket meal deal to Michelin start restaurants. There are also a number of street markets you can go to, that feature a wide collection of food stalls. The nearest one to my current office is Whitecross Street Market where you can get everything from Indian curry, to Turkish wraps, and burrito’s. A good favourite of mine is BBQ Salt & Smoke. The brisket is fantastic, and a pretty decent price for whopping portions.

There’s a lot of doom and gloom around the economy and finance at the moment, but one small silver lining might be that house prices for Bromley are bucking a trend. According to recent ONS data, Bromley registered an annual increase of 6%, compared to a 4.6% annual drop in prices across the whole of London. According to Rightmove data, the average price in Bromley is currently £555,802.

It seems there might be strikes on the Overground in the near future. For those of you that make your way towards Canary Wharf from Chislehurst, this is probably bad news. The strikes are planned for three Thursdays across the next three months with the first scheduled for Thursday February 26. That would seem to be a good day to work from home to me.

There are some fairly substantial properties in the Chislehurst area, but do you own a 13 bedroom house? Betsy Lawson, a local estate agent is working with a production company trying to find a location for shooting over the summer. Are they looking for a new Big Brother house?
