Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!
Welcome to this Friday’s edition of The 8:01
This week we cover:
England beat Sweden on penalties
I should have something more to say this week, but I’ve just stayed up to watch the Lionesses beat Sweden on penalties, coming back from 0-2 at half-time, a very untypical English outcome!
It’s been good to see some of our local pubs, such as the Bickley, promoting the fact that they have been showing the games live on TV, and women’s football is still on a good trajectory since our ladies won the European Championships in 2022.
Hopefully, the Lionesses' continued success and the new 3G pitch at Chislehurst Glebe will see even more girls realise that football is a game for them and a fun hobby to pick up this summer.

In Town
When you think of pubs near London Bridge, it’s easy to think of venues in Borough Market, or perhaps along Borough High Street, but if you explore some of the smaller roads nearby, there are a couple of good places tucked away. One such place is the Britannia on Kipling Street, which is also notable for its BBQ food served by the SMOK’D brand.
There’s a decent section of outside seating down the side of the pub, which does get some sun, if I recall. Overall, this is just a decent pub with a bit of a locals' feel, even when some staff from the hospital descend on it.
