IT’S 8:01 ON FRIDAY MORNING
Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!
Monday was the first working day without trains running to Charing Cross or Waterloo East, it therefore wasn’t a huge surprise to find it was quite literally standing room when getting on at Chislehurst. Not only are there no services to Charing Cross or Waterloo East, they stop at London Bridge, but it also seems like there was simply less trains running full stop. I only commuted up into town on the Monday, so I’m intrigued to know what the rest of the week was like. Can we now expect standing room only for the entirety of these engineering works? Even with school summer holidays in full effect, there’s still plenty of commuters heading into London.
THIS WEEK AT A GLANCE
Midsummer Movies — two nights of open-air cinema at Queens Gardens next weekend, all in aid of CASPA.
Blooms & Booze at the Scadbury Centre — sip a drink from The Cockpit and see what the team gets up to behind the scenes.
Standing room only continues — the Charing Cross and Waterloo East closures aren't easing up until mid-August, so brace yourself for the squeeze.

🏙️ IN TOWN
It’s been a little while since I went here, but I was reminded this week of having a client lunch at 14 Stories. This is another restaurant located in the City of London where the internal decor is clearly designed to make an impression if you like eating amongst the trees, this is the place for you. Feeling a little like you’re in an immersive experience, 14 Stories serves up some great British food, where I had a pretty decent steak. If you work in the city, it’s a pretty decent and impressive spot, without being overindulgent.

🚂 THE COMMUTE
Whilst the Charing Cross and Waterloo East closures are going to cause problems until mid-August, it’s worth bearing in mind there will be some new trains coming to the Piccadilly Line. According to TfL, these will be some of the most advanced trains in the world! One thing we’re pleased to see is that yes, they will have air conditioning.
👂 HEARD ON THE PLATFORM
Our new trees are a little thirsty. As I’m sure you’re all aware, we’ve had a pretty long dry spell of weather, with very little rain, and it’s not only our gardens that are parched. Young trees are especially vulnerable in this weather as they are still establishing their root system. As pointed out by Chislehurst Matters, if you could give them a drop of water (any water will be helpful) then we might help give them a fighting chance of making it through the summer alive.
