Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!

Welcome to this Friday’s edition of The 8:01

This week we cover:

  • Football is back

  • Some local venues take a summer break.

It might be the height of summer, but can you believe that football is already back on the agenda? Chislehurst Glebe and Bromley are already warming up for their first league games, which are tomorrow and August 2, respectively. I’m sure many of us might be away on the beach and not thinking about Match of the Day.

While everything looks great at Glebe’s new pitch, Bromley Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves has suggested that the new East Stand is behind schedule, with the planned opening now under pressure.

As it’s summer, don’t forget that a number of our local venues will also be taking a well-earned break and shutting up for a week or two. I have certainly seen that Due Amici will close on Sunday, August 3rd, and will reopen on Tuesday, August 19th, and the Bridges Fish & Chip shop also typically turns off the fryers over August. There’s also a break in scheduling at the Bromley Little Theatre.

In Town

Some places feel more suited to either start an evening or end it, Mr Fogg’s is is one of them. The Society of Exploration just off the Strand is a great place to come and get a cocktail or two in a highly themed and immersive venue. Or as they put it:

Home to the world’s first Mechanical Mixologist! An atmospheric speakeasy cocktail bar in Covent Garden for the truly adventurous.

You might be aware of Mr Fogg’s which is a mall chain of venue across the city each one of which has a different theme. The Society of Exploration is only a few minutes walk from Charring Cross station and focuses on his trip around the world. Keep an eye out for the mechanical cocktail maker and the full size train carriage.
