IT’S 8:01 ON FRIDAY MORNING
Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!
The holidays and new term are fully behind us, and it seems we’re in full work mode now. The City feels busier this week than at any point since before Covid. I’ve always loved travelling into central London to go into the office, but for the first time, I’ve found it quite frustrating this week. There seem to be people everywhere, all heading in a myriad of directions.
Closer to home, it’s fun to see some Halloween decorations go up, with some excellent window art by Laura Gardner on display at Go Travel on the High Street.
THIS WEEK AT A GLANCE
This week we pop into a well-stocked wine and spirits shop tucked away in Leadenhall Market, while Chislehurst Caves gets ready for its Halloween ghost tours. We’ve also got a big-band jazz afternoon in aid of The Maypole Project, free health checks at a new GP on Chislehurst Road, and a heads-up about Southeastern’s December timetable changes. Finally, the Remembrance Parade needs some help, both cash and volunteers.

🏙️ IN THE CITY
If you’re looking for a tipple to take off the premises, then Amathus in Leadenhall Market is the place to go. Predominantly selling a fine selection of wine, they also have an excellent selection of premium spirits, including items like the Weller Bourbon I bought today. Along with this location, they also have a number of others dotted around London. If you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, the staff are always very knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely pop in if you need a gift, or just a treat for yourself.

Chislehurst Caves is turning out the lights for a series of special Halloween ghost tours. Get a free health check
A new private GP service has opened in Chislehurst with a mission to increase the number of healthy years lived by people across South East London. Located at 59 Chislehurst Road, as part of its launch, The Chislehurst GP is also offering free brief health checks, giving local people the opportunity to take a quick look at some key aspects of their health and meet the team.

🚂 THE COMMUTE
December timetable shake-up
Southeastern’s autumn timetable starts this Sunday, but it’s also useful to know that there’s a much bigger Southeastern timetable shake-up from 13 December. Most routes will run at least four trains an hour during the daytime Monday–Saturday, alongside various frequency increases elsewhere in south-east London.
👂 HEARD ON THE PLATFORM
Remembrance Day is just one month away, and as usual, Chislehurst will have a Parade as an act of remembrance. However, this is with little to no government funding that covers the cost of running this, and they still need £1,074 to cover expenses. Along with the money, they also need volunteers to help coordinate and run the Parade. If you can help, please reach out to [email protected]
