Have you been to The Devonshire yet?
This Soho pub has rave reviews for both it's Guinness and classic British menu.

The DevonshireA much needed pub in the heart of LondonIt's been well over a year since The Devonshire opened its doors in Soho, and even if you haven't popped in yet, it's difficult to imagine you've not heard of it. Located on Denman Street, directly opposite Moulin Rouge The Musical, this pub has created a lot of positive news at a time when a record number of our pubs are closing. Much of the noise coincides with the nation's newfound love of Guinness. Walking up to the bar, you will see rows of half-poured pints of Guinness waiting to settle, such is the demand for the black stuff. | ![]() |
THE PUB
The Guinness is Excellent
Unlike most pubs that serve Guinness with a nitrogen and carbon dioxide ratio of 70:30, The Devonshire does it differently at 82:18. This unique method, which apparently gives it a creamier head closer to what you expect to find in Ireland, is a must-try for any Guinness enthusiast.
I've been a few times now, and while I'm not the biggest Guinness drinker, each pint I've had has been excellent.
The Restaurant is Fantastic, Apparently
It's not just Guinness, though, that brings excellent reviews; with menu items like Beef Cheek and Guinness Suet Pudding, the restaurant is also highly regarded. The challenge, however, is getting a table. I've certainly not managed it yet. Reservations get opened up every Thursday at 10.30 am for 3 weeks in advance, but you'll have to be quick. I know people who have a recurring reminder in their calendar to make sure they're online 5 minutes ahead but still often struggle with bagging a table!

ARE PUBS IN DECLINE?
Pubs in London continue to close.
I personally find it reassuring to see there’s still a love for a good pub and great pint. According to ONS data, one in five pubs have closed since 2004. There are now only 3,535 open across the capital. However, we buck the trend in the South East where there’s actually been an increase. In the Borough of Bromley, as of 2024 we had 100 licensed pubs employing 1,369 staff.
Now that’s something to raise a drink to!
