We’re now into September and summer has officially ended. This will be sad for many, but others love nothing more than an autumnal walk through Hawkwood taking in all the changing colours of the leaves. That said, there are still plenty of things happening outside, not least The Picnic on the Common tomorrow to enjoy.

This week, I found yet another salad bar for lunch that works on the standard format of being able to build a salad bowl yourself from a wide selection of ingredients, or simply choose from a number of their ‘signature’ options they have created, which is far easier. Pick Your Own, is a small chain with a number of locations in the city, clearly aimed at local works, and does a good job to be honest. I had the Calabrian Chilli Chicken this week, but will be back to try out a few more of the other options.

Don’t forget that it’s the Picnic on The Common tomorrow. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic or purchase refreshments at the event. Free activities include a Punch & Judy show, a woodland nature trail, and traditional Victorian games. Children can also visit the optional “Crafty Corner” for £6, where they’ll receive a craft box to take home. Run by volunteers and backed by local sponsors, the event raises vital funds to help maintain the Commons.

It seems as soon as the summer holidays are over, we already turn our mind to Christmas. So for those of you that like to plan ahead, it’s worth getting the Christmas Market already in your diary.

As of today, you can order a driverless taxi on Uber, as part of their collaboration with London based company Wayve. It will be interesting to see if we get these in the Chislehurst area, but I for one, am quite positive about this. I took a number of driverless taxis whilst in Phoenix, Arizona late last year, and I was very impressed about how safe it actually felt. Swapping back to a human driven Uber, where the driver was constantly messing with Spotify on his phone, or ironically, another driver who had to hit the breaks so hard my seatbelt locked to avoid smashing into traffic on the highway, driveless has many advantages. I’ve also heard from many females, that getting in a car that doesn’t have a random person in it, feels a lot safer when getting home after a night out. All things to consider.
