Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!

👋 Welcome to this Friday’s edition of The 8:01 👋

This week’s edition of The 8:01 covers a power-cut-disrupted writing routine, the final stretch of Dry January, and a speedy yet indulgent steak lunch at Gaucho.

We also take a look at upcoming events such as piano and wine at Board & Barrel, Burns Night specials across Chislehurst pubs, creative jewellery workshops at Creative Escape Studio, and a spotlight on the Dragons Keep Roleplay Club.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoy!

It’s well known common sense to never leave things to the last minute, and that includes writing The 8:01. This week, I was in danger of not being able write it given that we had a power cut late yesterday afternoon into the evening. Despite taking refuge in the Bickley Arms for a while, I’m writing this later that I would normally plan. A good lesson to keep writing earlier in the week!

For those of you that have given up booze for January, you’re nearly there! This is your last full week of abstinence, and I’m sure there will be a few of us that take a drink to celebrate next weekend, although the true observers will have to wait for Sunday.

If you’re after a quick steak In Town…

Gaucho, Broadgate

There are times when a salad doesn’t cut it for lunch. This week, we had a team lunch and wanted a sit down meal, but not one that would last all afternoon. And so we took advantage of Gaucho’s Set Lunch Menu. We were at the subterranean venue in the ever changing Broadgate Circle where two courses are £17.95 and three £19.75, so just an additional two pounds to cleanse your pallet with a Sorbet Selection.

Great meat, quick service and reasonable price aren’t always this easy to find in the City. I’ll be back.

🏘️ In Chislehurst… 🏘️

Piano at Board & Barrel

On Saturday 29th, Board and Barrel are creating a classy night with a performance by pianist, Lorraine. This should make for a wonderful backdrop to an evening of cheese and wine

Burns Night

For those of you not doing Dry January, and like to celebrate Robert Burns’ birthday, then you’ll be able to tuck into some haggis on Sunday. Neeps, tatties and whiskey are also highly likely to feature on this most Scottish of nights. The Bickley Arms, The Tigers Head and the Bulls Head are all serving up a Burns Night special.

Jewellery Making

Did you know that there’s a boutique workshop and studio, offering short courses in silver jewellery making in Chislehurst? Run by Arden Williams & Kevin Harte, Creative Escape Studio offers a range of workshops for small groups where you can learn a number of different jewellery making skills.

You might just have enough time to make your beloved a nice piece for valentines day!?

🚂 The Commute 🚂

Not one to go on about trains too much, but since Southeastern adjust the timetable a little while back, nothing seems to be on time. Despite the train I regularly get moving forwards by one minute, it seems to be constantly two minutes late each day. And this week, I was actually able to catch the proceeding train to mine as it was delayed so much. We just never seem to be able to run trains on time in this country.

👂 Heard on the Platform 👂

If you’ve just finished Stranger Things have been intrigued by the Dungeon and Dragons game the gang play, you might be interested to know there’s a group in Chislehurst that play this exact game. Every Friday, the Dragons Keep Roleplay Club meet up at the Coldharbour Community Hall, for an evening of Tabletop Role Playing Games. Places can be limited, so do check ahead first before turning up.
