Running Clubs in Chislehurst
Whether you want to run with others for the social and community benefits, or aiming for sub-20 minute 5k, there are a number of running options in Chislehurst for you.
Running is the most accessible form of fitness. While a comfortable pair of trainers is advisable, that’s all you need to go for a run. We’re also lucky in Chislehurst that we have some great locations to run in. Whether over the commons, across Jubilee Park, or darting through the trees in Hawkswood, there are plenty of places to choose. One thing not on our side, though, is the hilly terrain we live on; Old Hill is NOT on many people’s running routes.
Running can also be a challenge when it gets cold and dark. And this is where being a member of a running club might help. Not only does a running club provide the fun and encouragement of running with other people, but it can also be a great way to improve your running and achieve that 25-minute 5k you've always dreamed of.
Petts Wood Runners
With over 600 members, Petts Wood Runners is the largest running club in the area. The club hosts the annual Petts Wood 10k, which is highly regarded by the running community. The club offers a specific program for beginners and accommodates more experienced runners. Club runs are on Tuesday nights at Willett Recreation Ground, with separate groups based on distance and time.
Orpington Road Runners
Orpingtong Road Runners are registered with the Beginners to Runners and have a focus on the community aspect of running. Split into two with sessions for 0-5k and 5k, which is always a mixed ability with the need to stress about ‘keeping-up’. Something that can put all of us running in a group.
Life Lab and House of Balance Run Club
Life Lab and House of Balance host an informal running club, meeting at Chislehurst Ponds every two weeks on Sundays. The club is divided into three groups for beginners, intermediate, and advanced runners, so there is something for everyone, whatever your ability.
Bromley Veterans Athletics Club
Depending on your age, Bromley Veterans Athletics Club might be for you. Aimed at runners aged over 30, the club offer sessions for all abilities with track, field and cross-country. Bromley Vets is geared around fun, but they do also participate in select competitions.
Bromley Parkrun
There is also a Parkrun every Saturday morning in Norman Park. This event is part of the nationwide Parkrun organisation, so if you’ve ever participated in one, you know what it's all about. Runners of all abilities will take to a 5k course, which is timed for their personal records; it’s not a race. It’s free to participate, but you must register with Parkrun beforehand.
