We’re back after a two week break and we hope you’ve got through the heatwave. Fortunately the temperatures are taking bit of a dip for the weekend and into next week which honestly feels like a welcome respite. It’s not only high temperatures are over, it’s also England’s chance of winning the World Cup as they were dumped out of the competition on Wednesday night. Given that some pubs in the area saw a bit of trouble that spilled out onto the streets after the Norway game, this might be a relief for some local residents.

If you’re after a excellent coffee in town…

Nagare, Brushfield Street

We’ve featured quite a fee coffee spots on this section, but near where I work in the City, there is just such an abundance of great spots. This week I’ll highlight Nagare overlooking Spitalfields Market. It’s a tiny spot with only a few seats inside, but the coffee here is excellent. Well worth dropping in if you’re nearby.

🏘️ In Chislehurst… 🏘️

Sausage & Cider Festival

The Cockpit are hosting a Grand Sausage & Cider Festival on Sunday. The event sees Villagers Fine Sausages providing the bangers, with the usual wide variety of ciders and perries. Free entry with no tickets needed

Sunday, 26th, 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Royal Parade

Wild Kids Club: Friendship Bracelets & Leaf Printing

An outdoor session for children aged 3–7 at Chislehurst Recreation Ground. The young ones can get creative making friendship bracelets and doing leaf printing during a relaxed, social morning that makes use of the Rec's outdoor space. And the weather should still be good!

Saturday 18 July 2026, 10:00am–12:00pm. Chislehurst Rec.

Chislehurst Rocks!

The annual music festival is back for it’s 16th year, and this time it’s found a bigger home at Flamingo Park on the A20 Sidcup Bypass (shuttle buses from Walden Recreation Ground).

Free entry to the Courtyard Fun Fair and Food Court, but paid tickets needed for the live music stages.

Runs 12:00–9:00 pm on Saturday 1 August, with a free Friday evening opening (31 July) featuring street food and funfair.

🚂 The Commute 🚂

Two up coming issues on the trains.

This weekend (18–19 July): No Southeastern services at London Charing Cross or Waterloo East at all. If you're planning to go into town Saturday or Sunday, you'll need to find another route. Trains are running but will terminate at either Victoria, London Bridge or Cannon Street.

Sunday 26 July to Sunday 16 August: Charing Cross and Waterloo East are closed for a full 22-day engineering works block. Network Rail is carrying out "essential track work to improve safety, reliability, and performance." Trains will still run — but differently, taking longer, with altered routes. If your daily commute goes through Charing Cross, this is the moment to check the Southeastern website and plan ahead before the 26th.

👂 Heard on the Platform 👂

Have you spotted there’s some new flower beds on the platform 2 and 3 at the station? Whist it’s still a long way to go compared to Elmstead Woods, it’s great to see some greenery here as it’s otherwise pretty devoid of greenery.
