Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!

Pumpkins at Chartwell
👋 Welcome to this Friday’s edition of The 8:01 👋
Things are feeling a bit spooky and fun this week in Chislehurst as the change of season brings a mix of stormy and bright weather. Beautiful red and golden leaves are upon us for excellent nature walks, and Diwali and Halloween celebrations are brightening up our streets! It’s a time for preparing gardens and outside areas for the change of season, and for enjoying cups of warming drinks (Vampire Frappuccino anyone?!)…let’s enjoy every bit!
Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoy!
Last weekend I visited Chislehurst Caves for the first time ever, and I thought it was such a great experience! Not only was it amazing to tour the cave system and see what’s down there (so much, who knew?!), but discovering the cosy little cafe and gift shop was a treat in itself, too! If you’ve not been, I thoroughly recommend a trip, the guide was really engaging and it’s definitely fun for all the family. On the 24th, 25th, 31st Oct and 1st Nov, they are hosting ghost walks for over 16s, see details later in the newsletter.

📚📚📚This week I also nipped into Bromley to join the Library, and forgot what a wonderful place the library is. There’s so many areas to sit and work, it’s light and bright, the staff are really helpful, and there’s even an area displaying historic items. I remember visiting about 30 years ago on a school trip and we were allowed out on the top floor balcony that overlooks the high street, you could see for miles! Do you have fond memories of it?📖📖📖

If you’re after a Cosy Pub In Town…
The Carpenters Arms, Goodge Street
🍺🍺🍺Ok, it’s not exactly at the end of our trainline, but this little pub is set back from the main road at Goodge Street, and it’s a real hidden gem. Two bars and main rooms, outside tables and even a terrace make this a place for any time of the day. And even though it’s nestled in amongst some high-rises, it even gets a little sun.🍻🍻🍻

Elmstead Woods Station Gardening Club for the Win!
🥇🥇🥇 We heard that the club won a Level 5 - Outstanding in the ‘It's Your Neighbourhood’ category in the RHS London in Bloom Awards event at Wisley. Not only that, but they entered a new category this year called ‘Celebration Stations’ and won a GOLD PRIZE - huge congratulations to everyone who works so hard to make it such a lovely station. My favourite parts include the peaceful bench area, and the little pond, I don’t think many stations in the UK can say that they have a pond on the platform!! 🥇🥇🥇
Friends of Chislehurst Recreation Ground Gardening Club tidying up!
🍁🍁🍁The Friends have been doing some serious tidying and repairing to get the rec all ready for the Autumn! I haven’t been up there in a while, but hope to soon….I love the woods just behind to wander through, and one day really want to try out the tennis courts! 🎾🎾🎾
