Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!
👋 It’s 8:01 on Friday Morning 👋
This week's edition has plenty to keep you busy; from navigating the tube strikes that rattled commuters across the city, to a lunch recommendation at Crunch in Spitalfields Market. In Chislehurst, we've got the Maypole Half Marathon and a Sound Bath Wellness Retreat at Chislehurst Caves both coming up on May 17th, plus a reminder to register to vote ahead of the local elections on May 7th. And if you fancy a relaxed evening out, the local board game group meets again on May 26th.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoy!

It’s been fun commuting to work this week what with tube strikes and engineering issues on the trains, but we all survived. Luckily in Chislehurst we’re not as reliant on the underground as other areas, but you still might need to get across the city to your final destinations. The only upside was that we’ve had some really good weather this week so walking around the city has not been too arduous.

If you’re after a Tasty Sandwich In Town…
Crunch, Spitalfields Market
When a colleague suggested we get “a world class” sandwich for lunch this week, I raised an eyebrow, but tagged along expecting something decent, and I can say that Crunch in Spitalfields market did not disappoint. Serving just a couple of different options, Crunch serves up toasted sandwiches with a crips bite, hence the name. I went for a Korean chicken style option which was very nice, and a decent price, but, it was a bit small. My colleague had two!
🏘️ In Chislehurst… 🏘️
Chislehurst Half Marathon
The Maypole Project's annual half marathon returns on Sunday 17 May, starting from Glebe FC Clubhouse. The route will have a good mix of urban sections and some countryside as it winds through Scadbury Nature Reserve. Whether you know anyone competing or not, it could be a good even to support. You can see more details here.
Sound Bath & Wellness Retreat at Chislehurst Caves
Sana are hosting a half-day wellness retreat inside Chislehurst Caves on Sunday 17 May. The session includes a sound bath and breathwork. By the looks of it, the event might be sold out, but worth keeping an eye out for any subsequent events.
Local Elections
The 8:01 tries to keep away from politics, but, we should point out that the local elections are coming up on May 7th, and if you want to make your mark, you need to register by April 28th. This vote is to elect our local council that works on issues affecting the local area, these are not national elections to determine our country’s government.
🚂 The Commute 🚂
It’s certainly been a fun week trying to get to work. Our friends at the RMT decided to pull a couple of 24hr tube strikes that severely impacted people’s ability to get to work or go about their day in the city.
👂 Heard on the Platform 👂
Did you know there’s a board game group that meets once a month in Chislehurst. Typically found in a pub, the group gets together in the middle of the month for a relaxed evening of social fun. The next event is scheduled for May 26th and you can find their FB page here.
