IT’S 8:01 ON FRIDAY MORNING!

Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!

Kicking off this week, we’d like to congratulate The Cockpit for winning the CAMRA Greater London Pub of the Year 2026. There must be such a great selection of contenders for this award that makes it truly amazing that one of our popular venues has beaten the lot. Not only is The Cockpit a great venue on Royal Parade, but they also support many of the events in our area, keeping everyone hydrated. Once again, congratulations to the team.

THIS WEEK’S EDITION

This week in Chislehurst, there's plenty to celebrate, from The Cockpit's win as CAMRA's Greater London Pub of the Year to a picnic on the common and the return of Honeydale Farm's popular boot sale this weekend. Talk is already turning to the festive season too, with stalls for November's Christmas Market now open for applications, and it seems like a new spot is opening soon on Belmont Parade.

🏙️ IN TOWN

I’m a big fan of steak, and London has no shortage of decent restaurants serving cuts of beef. However, I do think that Goodman’s is right up there as one of the best. Along with a venue in Mayfair, Goodman’s is also located in the City on Old Jewry, not far from The Bank of England. This is a great venue for either a business lunch or dinner, but also relaxed enough for a good night out with friends. Whilst the prices won’t see you coming here each week, there is a more reasonable quick lunch option.

PICNIC ON THE COMMON

Visitors can bring their own picnic or buy food and drinks on-site, while enjoying free entertainment like a Punch & Judy show, a woodland nature trail, and Victorian games. There's also an optional paid "Crafty Corner" (£6 per child) offering a take-home craft box. The volunteer-run event raises funds for the upkeep of the Commons and is supported by several local sponsors.

CHRISTMAS MARKET 2026

Ok, so the summer holidays are not even over yet, but…the application form for the Christmas Market is already up. The date has been confirmed as Sunday 22nd November, and if anyone wants a stall, they can apply today: Apply for a stall.

🚂 THE COMMUTE

Standing Room Only

As we wrote last week, the temporary closure of Charing Cross and Waterloo East is definitely putting pressure on the remaining train services. Even during this quieter summer holiday period, it’s definitely standing room only. Being able to get on Cannon Street does make the journey back home better, but there are plenty of travelers who are facing the whole trip standing up. Staying for a quick drink after work does help ease the journey.

👂 HEARD ON THE PLATFORM

Have you heard that a new venue is due to open on Belmont Parade? Finally filling a space that’s rumoured to have been empty on the Parade for 12 or so years, a new place to socialise, The Belmont Tap, is due to open in the near future. Not suggested dates yet, but watch this space.
