Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!

Welcome to this Friday’s edition of The 8:01

This week we cover:

  • The school holidays are over

  • Tube strikes next week

  • Fun was had at Chislehurst Rocks and the Grand Cricket Match

For a number of people in the area, this week represents the last of the school holidays, with the kids heading back to class at some point next week. Some of you might be sad about that, and some might be quietly rejoicing; I’ll make no judgement. It must also be a fact the the RMT union is aware of, as they currently due to strike this time next week.

I’ve also seen that Giggling Squid have launched their “Early Bird” Christmas campaign, which is certainly proactive!

In Town

Ole Kyiv, Old Street

Those of you that are familiar with the Ukrainian restaurant, Ole Kyiv on the High Street, might be interested to see that they have now opened another location in the city up at Old Street, which is fairly easy to get to via the Northern Line from London Bridge. You can follow them at @olekyiv.oldstreet

At Home

The Gordon Arms, Park Road

Located near the cluster of amenities at Belmont Parade, the Gordon Arms is a fantastic pub to drop into. Along with televised sport there is also frequent entertainment so never a dull moment.

The Commute

With the summer holidays coming to an end, the commute into town will no doubt start to get busier; gone are the care free days of having a selection of seats to chose from. And as mentioned above, RMT are planning to strike next Friday (Sept 5th) for seven days, so do check your journey’s.

Heard on the Platform

It seems that a great time was had at both Chislehurst Rocks and the 1846 Grand Cricket match, although I did read that the pavilion is unfortunately beyond repair which is shame as it has a long history going back to 1899. The plan is to now build an entirely new pavilion building which can’t be entirely a bad thing.
