Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!
Welcome to this Friday’s edition of The 8:01
This week we cover:
Bourbon Whiskey
Craft ale and flowers at the Cockpit
Lime bikes were the winner
James raised over £2,500
We had quite a few things in the sky over Chislehurst this week. It started late last Saturday night with a robust set of fireworks around the Lubbock road area that took most residents by surprise. We then had a Super Moon, that could be seen out east for parts of the week, and then on Wednesday, we had the Red Arrows fly over head as they made their way to and from an air display in Guernsey. Another thing that’s been up in the air, is the tube network, with RMT going on strike.
In Town
Buffalo Trace, Long Acre
For those of you that like your whiskey US style, I can highly recommend you take a trip to Buffalo Trace in Covent Garden. Not only do they have a fully stocked shop with plenty of Bourbon’s and merchandise, they also have tasting rooms at the back where you can book to get a guided tasting session. Well worth it.

How 433 Investors Unlocked 400X Return Potential
Institutional investors back startups to unlock outsized returns. Regular investors have to wait. But not anymore. Thanks to regulatory updates, some companies are doing things differently.
Take Revolut. In 2016, 433 regular people invested an average of $2,730. Today? They got a 400X buyout offer from the company, as Revolut’s valuation increased 89,900% in the same timeframe.
Founded by a former Zillow exec, Pacaso’s co-ownership tech reshapes the $1.3T vacation home market. They’ve earned $110M+ in gross profit to date, including 41% YoY growth in 2024 alone. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.
The same institutional investors behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay backed Pacaso. And you can join them. But not for long. Pacaso’s investment opportunity ends September 18.
Paid advertisement for Pacaso’s Regulation A offering. Read the offering circular at invest.pacaso.com. Reserving a ticker symbol is not a guarantee that the company will go public. Listing on the NASDAQ is subject to approvals.
At Home
The Cockpit, the High Street
To an unobservant passer by, you might not realise that the Cockpit is a bar, as the flower selection in the window might convince you it’s a full-on florist. And whilst you can buy flowers, you will also find a well stocked micro-pub inside serving some fine craft ales, cider, along with a selection of wine and spirits. They also offer a small, but delicious, selection of charcuterie. There is always a good buzz and vibe to be found here.
The Commute
It’s been a tough one this week for anybody that had to move around the city. Whilst we are lucking that the train from Chislehurst and Bromley South give us a few options, it’s often impossible to avoid using the tube. It appears that Lime bikes were a huge beneficiary of the strike action, with everyone taking to two wheels to get around instead.
Heard on the Platform
A new Chislehurst resident and recent mum, Selen, has created a new Facebook group for follow mums, which you can find it here.
Last week we included an open garden from Beckenham resident, James. We’re pleased to see that he had a very successful day and has reportedly rasied over £2,500 for St Christopher’s Hospice.
