Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!

👋 It’s 8:01 on Friday! 👋

After last week's scorcher, we're back to classic British weather — rain, thunderstorms, and even some flooding risks. Add a Tube strike to the mix and it's been quite the week for commuters. But there's plenty to look forward to locally, with a packed summer events calendar in Chislehurst, some great food market tips, and big news on the railways.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoy!

After last weeks scorcher, its been back to more typical UK weather with plenty of rain. We’ve even had some thunderstorms and some risks of flooding, which wasn’t ideal with lots of people hkining around the city streets trying to get to the office as the Tube unions have once again been on strike…

There’s quite a few outdoor events coming up, so I hope we get the warmer weather back, as I’m sure these events could all do with our support.

Eight new trips designed for families in search of adventure

Intrepid's new Premium Family trips are the kind you'll reminisce about for years to come. The eight new trips across Borneo, Morocco, India, Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand and Egypt put small groups of families in the hands of Intrepid's most experienced local guides — with feature stays, cultural immersion, and kid-focused activities woven throughout. Stay in an overwater villa in Borneo and plant coral with your kids. Spend a night at a desert camp in Morocco under live Gnaoua music. See the Taj Mahal at sunrise as a family. Intrepid handles all the logistics so you can stay present for the moments that matter, while travelling in small groups of three to five like-minded families.

If you’re after a Food Market In Town…

Clifton Street Food Market, Clifton Street

If you’re up in the City/Shoreditch area, the most obvious market to head to for food is Spitalfields, and whilst there is some great quality here, it’s normally very business with tourists as well as workers, and the prices reflect that. Only 5 minutes walk away is Clifton Street Food Market, which consists of 15 or so independent food trucks/stalls selling a wide range of food types at great prices. You can get a ‘large’ mixed shawarma for only £7 which is great value these days.

🏘️ In Chislehurst… 🏘️

The Car Show, High Street

This Sunday sees the fourth car show up on the High Street. I’ve been for the last couple of years and it’s always a great afternoon with the road closed and lots of cars on display. It’s also a great opportunity to support some of our local business which will be open as usual on the day.

Jun-7, 11:00-15:30, Chislehurst High Street.

Rotary Chislehurst Summer Fair

If cars are not your thing, but you’re still keen for a fun community event, then you wont have to wait long as the Summer Fair is the following weekend. Located up on the commons, the even will see food and drink, family fund and games, live entertainment and local arts and crafts stalls.

Jun-13, 10:00 - 16:00, Chislehurst Commons

Summer Fete

And keeping on the theme of outdoor community events St Georges Church is running a summer fete. They’ll be a bouncy castle, a tombola, cakes, cards, books, drinks all to enjoy, Also an art exhibition from the Bromley Arts Society.

Jun-20, 10:30 - 15:30, St Georges Church, Bickley Road.

🚂 The Commute 🚂

The first Great British Rail trains ran into Waterloo this week as part of the re-nationalisation of our train network. It’s thought the GBR will replace Southeastern at some point. Interesting to note, that Southeastern is actually publicly owned these days anyway. Ultimately, do we even care? As long as the trains are clean and run on time most commuters would be happy.

👂 Heard on the Platform 👂

Did you hear that Borough Market has been voted as the best market, in the WORLD! That’s some award. Being only a 5 minute walk from London Bridge, I suspect most residents of Chislehurst will have frequented the market many times. Would you say it’s the best in the world?
