Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!

👋 It’s 8:01 on Friday 👋

It's not been a great week on the commute. The trains were in chaos with a trackside fire at Deptford on Monday followed by a broken down train on Tuesday made for a very challenging commute. On the brighter side, there's plenty of great local stuff to look forward to, from a steak worth seeking out to community events and neighbourhood news. Grab a cuppa and let's get into it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoy!

The trains have been an absolute disaster this week. There was a track side fire at the Deptford Recycling Centre on Monday that stopped trains running, and then on Tuesday, a broken down train sent everything into chaos for a second day in a row. Weeks like this really challenge that idea that commuting to the office is a good idea.

Still plenty of smoke by the time trains were back running.

If you’re after a Steak In Town…

Flat Iron, Commercial Street

I first went to in Soho on Beak Streak, so it’s been great to see them add more locations across the city over the years. The best thing about Flat Iron is that the menu is tiny, just the house steak and a rotating special. The house flat iron is always really good and reasonably priced. The sides are also really good, particularly the roast aubergine. Given that there’s a Hawksmoor just down the road from here, they do a really good job at still pulling in customers.

🏘️ In Chislehurst… 🏘️

Summer Fair

The Rotary Club Summer Fair is tomorrow up on the Common. Attractions will include a children's funfair, performance stage, beer and Pimm's tent, around 70 stalls.

Jun-13, 10:00 - 16:00, Prickend Pond

Raising money for a new village hall

St Nick’s is raising money for a new village hall. This represents an important community space for Chislehurst. The existing hall is pretty old and in much need of replacement. If you feel you can, I’m sure they would appreciate any support you can give. https://www.stnicholas-chislehurst.org.uk/villagehall

Chislehurst Beer & Music Festival

The Chislehurst Beer & Music Festival is back — and tickets are already on sale.

It's Saturday 12 September at the cricket club, noon to 10pm: real ales, ciders, food, kids' crafts and games, and a headline act still to be announced. Tickets from £6.

🚂 The Commute 🚂

There’s no trains to Charing Cross this weekend, so if you’re travelling to the city, you’ll need to find a different route.

👂 Heard on the Platform 👂

Ole’ Kyiv on Chislehurst High street is closing it’s doors. Not shutting for good, they are moving up to Old Street to new premises after they could not come to an agreement with the current landlord. Over the few years they have been open, a real community had formed around the restaurant and it will be a shame to see them go.
