Two Floors is Back
An old Soho favourite reopens after a two year refurb.
When I first started coming to central London for work, we had an office on Ramillies Street, which is now the site of the Photographers Gallery. Being right at the northern end of Soho, tt’s fair to say that this was a great location for after-work drinks. One of our favourite spots was a bar on Kingly Street by the name of Two Floors. I loved this bar. Whilst there was never any signage out the front to let confused first-time visitors know they were in the right place, the name did elude to the fact that there was indeed two floors here. Upstairs was a regular bar, and downstairs was a wonderful Tiki bar (which might have gone by the name of Handy Joe's Tiki Bar).
So I was saddened to see that around two years ago, they closed up. On the back of covid, this perhaps wasn’t a suprise as many bars of shut up shop struggling financially. However, what I didn’t know, was that they were to undergo a pretty big refurb and reopen. It was last week that I saw a post on instragram saying there were back. What joy!
Clean, modern vibes.
As I was in town on Tuesday, I decided to pop in and take a look. The very first thing I noticed was that the place had doubled in size where they’ve knocked through to the building next door. The decor has been given a modern and fresh look with lots of wood and stone. The basement floor wasn’t open yet, but I was told it would be ‘soon’, although there was no mention if it would still be a Tiki bar. I’ll have to do thorough research and go back and check.
A little nod to the Tiki bar.
If you remember Two Floors of old, then I’m sure you’ll also be pleased to hear it’s reopened, and if you’ve never been, I can highly recommend heading in for a sharpener when you’re next in Soho.
