Correction
In last weeks newsletter, I spoke about the post box on Royal Parade and said it was a type known as a Penfold introduced from 1866. This is wrong. I have been reliably informed by Joanna Friel of the Chislehurst Society that sadly, it’s just a replica. Such a shame.
And talking of the Chislehurst Society, they are always looking for volunteers to help, especially as Road Stewards who help deliver The Cockpit magazine three times a year. If you’d like to get involved you can contact them at [email protected].
Summer Fair 2025
The Chislehurst Rotary Club will once again be holding the Summer Fair on June 14th up on the common. I need to make a confession and admit I’ve never been, but that will change this year. There will be a fantastic kids' funfair, a performance stage showcasing brilliant local dance and theatre groups all day long, and the Rotary Club's Beer and Pimm's tent to keep the grown-ups happy. Plus, there'll be about 70 stalls packed with everything from entertainment and delicious food and drink to a huge variety of products and services.

In Town
When meeting friends near Charing Cross, one of my regular locations has to be The Harp on Chandos Place. It’s only a 5 minute walk from the station and is set back enough that it’s never rammed with tourists, but always lively enough to start a good night out. I particularly like it on a warm day when they swing the big windows at the front of the pub wide open, creating a perfect spot to people watch with a drink on hand. It’s a Fuller’s pub so offers a typical range of drinks, but it doesn’t offer any food.
