Hello, {{ Fname | neighbour }}!

👋 Welcome to this Friday’s edition of The 8:01 👋

This week we take a look at our nationalised Great British Railway, Christmas Lights in the forest, and earning cash-back on your commute.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoy!

This week the government unveiled their branding for Great British Railway (GBR), and I’ve since noticed it already at London Bridge and Cannon Street alone. I’m not sure anyone would say that the privatisation of our trains has been a particular success, and I’m personally intrigued to see how re-nationalisation will improve our service. This week alone, my regular train to the City has been late 4 out 4 times, and whilst I do nearly always manage to get a seat at Chislehurst, anyone getting on from Elmstead Woods has far less chance, and almost entirely unlikely from Grove Park. Will GBR taking control change this? According to the Gov website, they at least have this as the goal.

They [customers] will travel on GBR trains, running on GBR tracks, and working to a GBR timetable – all run by a single body focused on their interests. That will mean fewer delays, a better experience, and a timetable that better serves their needs.

I will remain cautiously optimistic.

World’s Best Matcha finally On Sale

As the season speeds up, I turn to Pique’s Sun Goddess Matcha for calm, steady energy and a natural, healthy glow. Crafted to be pure, potent, and antioxidant-rich, it delivers clarity without the crash. It’s the Pique ritual that keeps me grounded, focused, and radiant through the busiest time of year.

Some Christmas Spirit

Christmas at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest

Not particularly close to Chislehurst, but the Christmas Lights at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest are well worth a visit if you’re after some festive fun, in nature. Along with a wonderful set of light displays, there were also a number of food and drink options available on the route which included toasting marshmallows over an open fire, and mulled wine. I think both adults and children will love the experience.

🚂 The Commute 🚂

If you’re a Chase bank member, did you know that they are now the “Official Payment Provider” for TfL replacing Google Pay, and as a consequence, you can earn 1% cash-back on your travel spend up to a limit of £15 per month (£180 annually). Every little helps as they say.

👂 Heard on the Platform 👂

🗓️ For those of you out and about taking a walk around Chislehurst in December, should aim to visit Westhurst Drive, as they are doing a living Advent Calendar with each day revealing a new window display.

If anyone has any photos, we’d love to see them. 🗓️

As a regular reader, you might have noticed we removed the “What’s On” and “Weather” section from the newsletter last week. This has been an intentional decision. There are plenty of other places to see a selection of what’s on in and around Chislehurst, and it actually took quite a bit of time identifying and curating events to include. We hope this doesn’t diminish the overall value of the newsletter. But do let us know!
