IT’S 8:01 ON FRIDAY MORNING

Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!

The summer holidays are coming to an end, which seems to be in line with a notable change in the weather this week. It’s literally been refreshing to get some rain this week, although we are still going to be considered in drought for a while yet. Perhaps as it is the last few weeks of summer, the car park at the station really has been quite empty most mornings as I’m sure many people are taking time off work.

We launched a “Season Ticket” subscription last week, and we were really pleased to see a handful of people sign up for this and help support The 8:01, but as mentioned, this newsletter will always be free as it is, the subscription tier is only here for those that want a bit more from The 8:01.

THIS WEEK AT A GLANCE

This week: a proper doorstep sandwich at Sandwich Sandwich in Broadgate Circus, Ollie & Olive Owl & Friends back for toddlers on 3 September, an Open Garden for St Christopher's Hospice on 30 August, bus strikes brewing in North London, and Grace Rose starting a group to help neighbours actually meet.

It's Here: Pique's New Caffeine-Free Afternoon Energy

I quit my afternoon coffee. Not because I wanted to — because I found something better.

You know that wall you hit every day around 2–3 PM? I used to just accept it as the cost of doing anything. Another coffee, a quick spike, then the crash — and somehow I'd still feel dehydrated by dinner.

Then I tried X·E Fountain, Pique's brand-new electrolyte energy drink, and I genuinely wasn't ready for how good "no crash" could feel.

No caffeine jitters. No 4 PM slump. Just clean, steady energy that actually hydrates me instead of draining me. It's built with a premium Vitamin B Complex for natural cellular energy, Magnesium Malate + Taurate for real focus, and a full electrolyte blend that makes it feel like a treat, not a chore.

The cucumber-celery-lime flavor is so crisp and refreshing — it's basically stolen my afternoon coffee slot completely.

🏙️ IN TOWN

If you’re after a decent sandwich in town, I can recommend Sandwich Sandwich. This small chain has been around for a little while but there’s a relatively new location near the office in Broadgate Circus, and it’s currently a hot favourite with my colleagues. These are not your weedy Tesco sandwiches, but huge doorsteps that are way more filling than you imagine. And should you find one sandwich isn’t quite enough, they also do a really good Scotch egg. If that all sounds a touch unhealthy, I hear they also do salads, but I’ve not looked at those!

🚂 THE COMMUTE

BUS STRIKES

It might not affect too many people in our area, but it’s worth noting that there will be some bus strikes in North London coming up. With the recent heatwaves, the drivers have not been happy with their working conditions, and to be honest, if being a passenger is anything to go by, who can blame them.

👂 HEARD ON THE PLATFORM

Whilst London and its suburbs is a ginormous city, it can also be a hard place to make connections with people. To combat this, Grace Rose has set up a local group for those who want to get together and socialise.
