Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!
👋 Welcome to this Friday’s edition of The 8:01 👋
I don’t know about you, but in our house, we try and wait until at least Dec 1st, before we start getting in to the Christmas spirit. Given that the 1st is on a Monday this year, it feels like things are kicking off this coming weekend. I suspect a lot of us will be putting up the decorations and hopefully visiting a number of events and activities that are planned in the area; bring on the gluhwein.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoy!
A few weeks ago, we mentioned that driverless taxis are planned to arrive in London next year. They have been in a few US cities for a number of years now, and I had the chance to try one for myself last week in the city of Phoenix, Arizona. I won’t spend a lot of time talking about it, but I have to say I was very impressed. That said, Phoenix is a very spread out city, with relatively quiet roads and lots of space, and I’m not sure how well they would cope around our smaller roads and lanes of Chislehurst and navigating Old Hill at rush hour.

Would a driverless taxi be able to handle rush-hour on Old Hill?
This Coffee Shop is Popular
Rosslyn Coffee, London Wall
☕️☕️☕️ It’s fair to say that coffee is as popular as it’s ever been. Go into the city and you’re never far away from a ‘barista style’ coffee location. On my walk from Cannon Street to the office, I pass by one of Rosslyn Coffee’s prime locations on London Wall. This week I had the chance to go in mid-morning and I was shocked at just how busy the place was, leading me to a few observations:
WFH is over for the City
No coffee shop outside of London would be this busy at 10:35.
We’ll happily pay over the top for fashionable coffee.
And the coffee itself? Really good. Just pick your timing and don’t expect a seat.

Can you believe this was 10:35?
The daily health habit you’ll actually stick with…
This time of year, it’s SO hard to stay in control of your health.
Holiday travel (and meals!), big family gatherings, dark and cold days, it’s easy to skip that workout, sleep in later than you should, or have just one more cookie.
That’s why you need a daily health habit that’s easy to stick with.

Chislehurst Book Club
📚📚📚 Did you know that every month, Deva Yoga hosts a book club at Joelle’s coffee shop? If you know the venue, you’ll know that it’s a wonderful intimate space, and so you’ll need to book in advance to secure your spot. 📚📚📚
Royal Mail’s Latest Post Box Arrives
We have a brand new automated post box on Burlington Parade. These new pillar boxes allow you to send small parcels with out the need for going to the post office and offer something we’ve not seen before in the shape of a solar panel on top. It must be welcomed that these boxes are good for the environment being self powered, but it does mean the end for the much loved knitted post-box topper. Hopefully though, they will help reduce the waiting times in the Post Office.
🚂 The Commute 🚂
Have you seen the new station clock at London Bridge? It’s a pretty modern and sleek looking piece and I actually quite like it. I think over time it will become a design classic. Did you know however that it reportedly cost £120,000 coinciding with the return of state ownership of the railways. It’s a good job ticket prices have just been frozen.
👂 Heard on the Platform 👂
VisitChis are looking for volunteers. Many of us in the area benefit from the work and events that this group puts on, so if you want to give back to the local community, this is your chance.
If you want to help out email [email protected].
What’s On? Well lots, actually!
