Hello, {{ Fname | reader }}!
👋 It’s 8:01 on Friday Morning 👋
Spring has well and truly arrived in Chislehurst this week — or so it seemed! We had a brief but glorious taste of summer with temperatures hitting 23°C on Wednesday, only for grey skies and cooler weather to return on Thursday. Classic April. Whether you're heading out on one of the National Trust walks starting this Sunday, catching Chislehurst Glebe FC's final home games of the season, or raising a glass at The Cockpit's 5th birthday celebrations, there's plenty going on in the village this week.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoy!

We had a brief taste of summer in the week, with temperatures hitting 23℃ on Wednesday with plenty of sun. This amazed my new colleague from San Francisco who wasn’t prepared for such warm climes in April, but what shocked him more is how the weather returned immediately back to grey skies and 10 degrees cooler the very next day.
In last week’s edition we highlighted the Cake Shed on Belmont Lane. It was a pleasure therefore to see a post on Facebook saying they had completely sold out! It seems you’ll need to be quick to catch one of those cakes.
Find out why 200K+ engineers read The Code twice a week
Staying behind on tech trends can be a career killer.
But let’s face it, no one has hours to spare every week trying to stay updated.
That’s why over 200,000 engineers at companies like Google, Meta, and Apple read The Code twice a week.
Here’s why it works:
No fluff, just signal – Learn the most important tech news delivered in just two short emails.
Supercharge your skills – Get access to top research papers and resources that give you an edge in the industry.
See the future first – Discover what’s next before it hits the mainstream, so you can lead, not follow.
If you’re after a Salad In Town…
Urban Greens, Norton Folgate
Maybe not a unique format these days, but if you’re looking for a slightly healthier lunch, then Urban Greens does a great salad. With five locations in the city, they are well placed for a quick lunch when at the office. Along with a regular menu, they offer a rotating limited special, which this month, is a collaboration with Indian food restaurant, Kricket.
🏘️ In Chislehurst… 🏘️
National Trust Walks & Talks
Starting on Sunday 12th April, The National Trust are kicking off a series of walks and talks around Petts Wood & Hawkwood Estate. Beginning at 2:00 pm, the first walk will discuss how the woods were saved.
Chislehurst Glebe Football Club
Whilst a lot of attention will be on whether Bromley can win Division 2 of the Football League, we should not forget that Chislehurst have their own football team on the form of Chislehurst Glebe FC. The season is soon coming to a close, so you only have a few more games to watch them, including this Saturday at 3:00 pm at Foxbury Avenue.
The Cockpit is Turning 5
It feels like the Cockpit is a well established firm favourite on Royal Parade and it could be easy to forget they have only been there five years. To celebrate this milestone they are throwing a little party on Wednesday 15th inlcuding free burgers to soak up the drinks.
🚂 The Commute 🚂
April. The time of year when we have no idea what to wear on the journey to work. Is it too early to leave the coat behind? Do you layer up? Have you dug out the lighter summer coat? Has the scarf been discarded until October? Whatever you decided to step out with in the morning, you can guarantee at this time of year, it will be wrong.
👂 Heard on the Platform 👂
There’s been a fair amount of work down by the Kyd Brook where new benches and fences have been installed. Given Chislehurst is in Zone 5 of Greater London, its locations like this down by the stream, that could make you think we’re way out in the countryside. It’s therefore nice to see these areas well cared for and protected.
